Welcome!

Learn about our efforts to better understand how prairie plants move

About Our Project

Prairie ecosystem fragmentation has become a big issue as urban areas  and agriculture continue to grow and create barriers that block both animal and plant movement. Ecosystem fragmentation can cause species to become isolated, which can lead to a decrease in both species and genetic diversity and cause species to become more susceptible to global change, such as climate change. At the moment it is unclear exactly how far plant species can move and knowing how far prairie plant species can travel will allow land managers to better understand where the best location for new restored prairies are and how far apart prairie fragments can be while still facilitating prairie plant dispersal.
